Fashion and style for autumn/winter 2010/11 is focused on accessories, no longer considered as simple details but as distinguishing elements of complete collections. Particularly so for the precious universe of couture jewellery, characterised by splendid settings, techniques and metallic mesh, which is thoroughly absorbed into the clothing universe to reappear as stunning, elaborate necklaces, bracelets and other jewellery, an authentic reference point on an outfit. Dazzling pieces are often contrasted with a minimal or total black look. Lanvin leads the way by creating wood, metal and horn jewellery to add a tribal touch to deceptively austere women. Marni, on the other hand, layers materials, bedecking necks with impressive handmade necklaces. Shiny metal, enamelled drops and horn disks are assembled with real metalized laurel leaves, opaque resin and fabric spheres. Aimed at a more futuristic look, Gaetano Navarra presents a huge necklace of silvery balls and high tech decorations. Without naturally forgetting strong ethnic influences, especially for collars, reinterpreted in line with contemporary trends. Necklaces are often matched with cuff bracelets, rings and metal arm band to designed to complement one of the season’s cult garments: sleeveless tops. These jewellery sets are finished off with striking dangling drop ear rings, oriental inspired rings and rings with semiprecious stones, filigree thimbles and metal bands. Hands and arms are set to play an important role, clad in elegant long gloves in supple nappa and suede, reminiscent of those worn by the seductive silver screen star, Greta Garbo, followed by shorter black leather motorcyclist versions, embellished with studs or lace. Belts are another leading accessory, almost as wide as girdles and made of leather with decorative metal plaques and multiple buckles like, for example, those showcased by Gianfranco Ferré. Without forgetting narrow, knotted and woven versions. Last but nor least, heads and hats, the Borsalino, British bowlers, Russian furs, fringed Charleston toques and dainty Jacqueline Kennedy styles.
